The bases for the lamps are painted with designs found on traditional Tibetan painted furniture and rugs. Lamps 1, 7 and 11 are painted on cloth which is attached to the round wooden base. Lamp 1 then has brass fittings around the base and top. Lamps 6 & 7 are painted directly on the pine wood, so the veins show through. They are square or hexagonal in shape. Moving away from the traditional Tibetan designs, Lamp 10 offers a modern, rustic look. The lampshades are made using the local, handmade lokta paper.
